Join us in standing up for reproductive health and education. Planned Parenthood, the organization that delivers reproductive health care, sex education and information to millions of people worldwide, has come under fire in the U.S. lately, with many politicians on both state and federal level seeking to end funding (and in a few cases succeeding).

During the month of May, you can send a specially designed Planned Parenthood vgift to your friends to help support this cause. (And if you need someone to send it to, frank is always happy to receive gifts!) There are three variations ($1, $5 and $10) for you to choose from, but they'd all look good on your profile when your friends know that you stand by something so important.

Thank you all for your help in our support for Planned Parenthood. This promotion ends June 1, 2012; LiveJournal is not affiliated with Parent Parenthood. For more information about Planned Parenthood, please visit: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/

Why SOPA is dangerous, an explanation of the bill

Why SOPA is dangerous
To Sum Up
SOPA:
  • Gives the government the right to unilaterally censor foreign websites.
  • Gives copyright holders the right to issue economic takedowns and bring lawsuits against website owners and operators, if those websites have features that make it possible to post infringing content. [A comment feature is enough.]
  • Makes it a felony offense to post a copyrighted song or video.

This bill turns us all into criminals. If it passes, then you either stop using the Internet, or you simply hope that you never end up in the crosshairs, because if you’re targeted, you will be destroyed by this bill. You don’t have to be a big, mean, nasty criminal — common Internet usage is effectively criminalized under this law. This bill will kill American innovation and development of the Internet, as it will become too risky to do anything of value. It is toxic and dangerous, and should not, under any circumstances, be supported.

Keep it going, folks! Everyone re-post this!

Day 8: One band/singer whose popularity you will never understand.

Lady Gaga....

her music is just generic pop, with a streak of copying. (I could sing "express yourself" perfectly over "born this way") She isn't that pretty, and dresses like she does only for attention.

I have/had friends who look at her like the second coming of Christ.  I just don't get it.

Give me Adele, or Sara B. Any day!!!

Mississippi Personhood Amendment

Okay, so I don't usually do this, but this is an issue near and dear to me and this is getting very little no attention in the mainstream media.

Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status.

Putting aside the contentious issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages. This is not a good thing.

Jackson Women's Health Organization is the only place women can get abortions in the entire state, and they are trying to launch a grassroots movement against this amendment. This doesn't just apply to Mississippi, though, as Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states.

What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats, including the Attorney General, Jim Hood, backing it.

The reason I'm posting this here is because I made a meager donation to the Jackson Women's Health Organization this morning, and I received a personal email back hours later - on a Sunday - thanking me and noting that I'm one of the first "outside" people to contribute.

So if you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. My RSS reader is near silent on this amendment. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it.

If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it.

What to do?

- Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it.

- If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link.

- You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this.

Describe your perfect pizza.
. White Sauce, mozzarella cheese, roasted garlic, chicken, cilantro. SO GOOD!

Also a good old fashioned Pepperoni Pizza is good too.

Writer's Block: Anti-bullying month

I was bullied all throughout jr high, and I really didn't know why. I think it might have had to do with my changing body. I went from short and flat to tall, and boobs over the course of a summer.

Of course I was accused of stuffing my bra, and of other mean things. I also had frizzy hair, and was confused about clothes, makeup and stuff like that.

A couple years in High School, one of the girls who was the ringleader came up to me and apologized. I accepted it; I also told her just how bad she had hurt me. Nothing else came out of it, but it had scarred me for life.

If you could take an all-expense-paid two-week vacation to anywhere in the world with one friend or partner, where would you go and who would you take?

Tropical Island, and my boyfriend.  Like there would be anywhere or anyone else?!

What to do?

So, I have quite the conundrum. (if you follow me on facebook or twitter you might know what's up.)

My BF and I were talking about moving out of the desert, and we had agreed on Orange County. That night, I went online, and applied for some jobs, basically on a whim; not even expecting to get a look, or even a call back.

But, I did!

It's full time work at a spa in San Clemente. I went there on Tuesday, and was offered the job on Wednesday. I have until the 20th to accept the offer.

I only have a couple of concerns

Where the hell am I going to live?

When is the BF going to move?

What was I thinking?

I'm at about 95% sure I'm going to take the job. It is full time, and doing something I love, and in a place I love; but the whole finding a place to live is scaring me more than anything else at the moment, and so is my overwhelming fear of failure.

Any advice is more than welcomed!!!
